Bea Arthur, you will be missed...

Farewell, Myrtle Beach...

This blog is a tribute to my parents' retirement home in Myrtle Beach. This house was a dream for my father, and unfortunately, it burned down yesterday due to the horrible fires in South Carolina. Here's to all the people who lost their homes...may brighter times lie ahead for you...

Guys with Guts...

So the other day, I was in a Starbucks, talking to a friend of mine. And when I left, my friend stayed behind, but apparently something interesting happened....

While my friend was on the phone, a gentleman (and from the way he was described, I MEAN gentleman) came up to her and handed her a napkin. On the napkin, in perfect handwriting, was written the following:

"Hey, sorry to bother you, but who was that guy you were talking to? He was PRECIOUS? Is he gay?"

Ha! He had to ask.... (that's why I called him a gentleman...)

So when my friend got off the phone, and she told him that I was, and he offered to give her his info to pass along to me. Of course, my friend accepted, but she was so overjoyed by his politeness and that fact that HE offered to give HIS information. He didn't ask her for MY information, because honestly, she said she probably wouldn't have given it up in case whoever it was asking for my info turned out to be a creep. But this guy was the opposite, and he offered his info, like any true gentleman would.

Then, of course, she passed along the info to me and here I am telling the world. But why I wanted to blog about this tonight was because I admire my gentleman caller. Not many guys have the guts to do something like that anymore. I mean, not to sound cocky or anything, but I see guys eye fondle me all the time on the subway, but no one EVER come up to me to say, "Hi." Is a simple "Hello" too much to ask for these days? One never knows who they're going to meet and where, so why not always be open and friendly.

Live in the moment. Not in the future. Not in the past. The future will come. And the past is done. Change is already here.

I'll keep you posted about the guy... ;)

Mr. Broadway

So PROUD of one of my best friends, Anthony Hollock, the NEW Mr. Broadway of 2009! :)

Nerds Among Us

So, my NYC debut, "Nerds Among Us," was this past Monday, 4/20, and it couldn't have went better! I am so grateful for all the 25 people who showed up! Not to mention the people who stayed for drinks after. My friend, Adriana, recorded the whole show, so be sure to look for videos of my favorite songs both on here and YouTube.

Needless to say, 26 was probably one of the best birthday's I've ever had. Thank you EVERYONE for all your support, and be on the lookout for "Nerds Among Us: Director's Cut" coming this summer! Who knows....Elaine Stritch might even make an appearance... :)

An NYC Actor's Right of Passage

So today, I had my SECOND opportunity to do some extra work on the original Law & Order (the show is on it's 19th season!).

Now, on my first shoot, I was in holding for about 5 hours, only on the actual set for 1 of those hours, and I was barely in the shot. I was mostly in the background, and I absolutely HATED the suit I was wearing. I bought it when I was at least 20 pounds heavier, so needless to say, it no longer fits and makes me look fat, lol. :)

But today was a much different experience. Despite the fact that my bus home from Boston got into NYC this morning at 3am, and I had to be up by 7am to get to the Law & Order set for 9am, leaving me extremely exhausted, I actually felt like I EARNED my paycheck today. I got a LOT of face time on set today, and was in and out of holding almost all afternoon. The morning was a little boring, but when there's free food to keep you going, one can't complain. And the costume designer LOVED my outfits. That made me feel special, lol.

So, I had a great time, and I must admit that I like extra work. I get to read, they feed you, you meet new people, etc. Feel free to share your own background/extra stories as they come along for you... :)

BEST SONG EVER!!!

MARIO KART LOVE SONG = BEST SONG EVER!!! :)

KT Sullivan

So tonight, my accompanist for "Nerds Among Us," Jeff Cubeta and I were lucky enough to be guests at KT Sullivan's cabaret in the exquisite Oak Room of the famous Algonquin Hotel. WHAT A SHOW!!! Of course, we were the youngest people in the audience, but MAN! Can that woman sing! Her theme tonight was the music of Dietz and Schwartz, who were Golden Age composer/lyricists, but whether I was around during that generation or not, KT TRULY lets you appreciate them both. I am so glad to have met KT during my days with Cabaret Pittsburgh, along with many others (Elaine Stritch, Tom Wopat, Stephen Schwartz, etc.), but I couldn't be more happier with a better cabaret mentor. KT is at the TOP of the cabaret scene, and she clearly deserves it. And to simply dine in the Oak Room of the Algonquin Hotel....well....I felt like I was rich! Thank you, KT, for a marvolous evening. :)

Adventureland

Last night, I went to go see the new movie, Adventureland, with a bunch of fellow Pittsburghers. If you don't already know, I went to college in Pittsburgh, and Adventureland was filmed at Kennywood, which is Pittsburgh's next-best-thing to a theme park, lol. You haven't experienced Pittsburgh if you haven't been to Kennywood.... :)
But anyway, we LOVED it! I thought the story of Adventureland was extremely well written, and the acting was very sincere and natural. I may be gay, but I LOVE Kristen Stewart! And the entire movie was non-stop hilarious!
Needless to say, I had a great night in celebration of Pittsburgh. It almost made me miss it a little bit....almost..... ;)

A "Great" Man Moves On...

Today, the world lost a good man...my Uncle Arthur. I call him my uncle, but he was technically my "great" uncle. Nevertheless, I believe the term of "family" deals with a certain amount of love. I have some friends who I consider to be more like "family" than just good friends. And although most people don't know their "great" uncles or aunts or grandparents, my Uncle Arthur was more of a grandfather to me than an uncle. My father told me today that he knew me better than he did his own children, and that means a lot.

My brother had a mini golf competition going on with this man, and what I loved so much was that my Uncle Arthur was 80 years old, yet that never stopped him. He was so energetic, and he was everything I want to be when I turn 80 years old. I just admired him so much, and I already miss him so much...

I know he is in a better place--I have no doubt about that--I just hope I get to see him again some day...

...and play mini golf... :(
