Ghost Town

Ghost Town Review

Ok, I love Ricky Gervais, but for some reason, the trailer made this movie look soooooo cheesy, but it was adorable! Teo Leoni is also a personal favorite of mine, as well as Greg Kennear. So I don't know how I thought this was going to be a bad film, lol.

But I particularly loved the message attached to this piece. Of course, Ricky Gervais' character gets roped into helping the dead (or ghosts, in this case) with their unfinished business. And let me tell you, I bawled. I had a best friend who committed suicide during my senior year of college about 3 years back, and I can only wish he would send me some sort of sign to explain as to why he did it. Part of me also wishes I could be like Ricky Gervais in this film and help those in reality cope with death and the loss of their loved ones. I feel that when my friend died, he taught me that death is just another part of life, and this film sort of hit that same feeling for me... :)

Also, big shout out to Kristen Wiig! I LOVE THAT WOMAN!!!! :)

I give this movie only HALF a REDBULL
(meaning I would only need half a Redbull to watch it all over again, lol)

Congrats to putting together a great film, cast and crew of Ghost Town! You truly touched home for me... :)

I MADE THE DAILY NEWS!!! :)

So I went to the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and I MADE THE NY DAILY NEWS!!!! Check out the link below and click on pics #3 and #4! (And don't forget to read the captions...they're HYSTERICAL!!!) :)

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

So I attended the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince last night, and was very pleased. I must admit, I had to let the movie sink in for a day, but all-in-all, it was a fantastic Potter film! (But since the 3rd movie, what Potter film HASN'T been good?) ;)

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!! (If you haven't seen the film yet, or don't know who dies, I suggest not reading this until you see the movie!!! You've been warned...)

The first 5 minutes of the film threw me off. The Dursley's weren't even in this one, and although I can see them cutting those parts out (especially when the books get longer and longer and something has to go), they are still some fun scenes to see on screen.

Next, I LOVE the 6th book so much because the first few chapters don't even start with Harry Potter in his horrid Muggle home. In fact, the book doesn't start with Harry at all! It begins with the Prime Minister of London, waiting for news from the Prime Minister of Magic. Then we cut to the mysterious unbreakable vow between Snape and Draco Malfoy's mother. Now, even though the Minister meeting is left out, the unbreakable vow scene was in this film, but not until a good 10 minutes or so into the movie. And since the story is largely based on the mysteriousness of this meeting (as well as Draco's "mission"), it would have been a great opener for the movie...but oh well....And then the whole breaking of the bridge scene, and Harry hitting on some hot girl with a fro??? There were a lot of people LITERALLY saying "what the fuck" out loud in the theatre during these first few minutes. I just wish they stuck to the Minister scene. We didn't need to SEE Muggles being affected by Death Eater's. The Prime Minister of England could have shown that through shear fear... :)

Anyway, with that being said, the rest of the film was SPOT ON!!! The Quidditch was beautiful, the love scenes were great, the acting was SUPERB!!! I swear, ALL of these actors get better and better with each film, just like JK Rowling did with the writing of each book. Seriously, SPOT ON!!!

At one point, knowing that Dumbledore is a major figure in this book especially, I was watching Michael Gambon and wondering how Richard Harris would have held up in this film (and even the last one). I know when Richard died, a lot of people gave Michael a hard time for stepping up to the plate. And let's be honest, he was barely in the 3rd movie, and I think for that very reason. But I felt this way from the beginning...Richard Harris was great. Classic. But I don't think his honesty and mysteriousness could have handled the Dumbledore we see in books 5 and 6. The battle between Voldemort and Dumbledore in the last movie was intense, and Gambon pulls off that powerful attitude! And in this new film, he added the perfect amount of vulnerability to the role, and I can only applaud him for that. Of course, I bawled like a little school girl when he died, but the moment was so beautiful and brilliantly captured, it was everything I made it out to be when I was reading it a few years ago. So I must also thank David Yates for being so true to the book, particularly the death scene. Well done. :)

Now, speaking of the direction, one thing David did focus on that I could have actually seen a little less of were all the love interests. I understand there is a lot of LOVE going around in book 6, as there should be. They're 16 now. That's the early stages of Ron and Harry's sexual peek, lol. And all these love scenes were hilarious, don't get me wrong. That adds a lot to any movie. And I do remember when this book came out and everyone was questioning who Hermione was going to end up with. But the most beautiful love moment was when Harry comforted Hermione when she saw Ron making out with Lavender. You could tell there was no sexual interest between Harry and Hermione, but true friendship. I think I cried during this scene, too, lol. :)

And in regards to all the love scenes, I wish there was a tad lass of those, and perhaps one or two more memories of Tom Riddle. One of the reasons why I LOVE book 6 so much is because we learn about who Voldemort was BEFORE he became to be the most evil wizard of all time, and I for one, believe that there is both good and evil in all of us. No one is born evil. It has to come from somewhere. And all those memories showed us just that with Tom Riddle. But by having only TWO memories shown in the film, I was a little disappointed by this. If it were me, I would have added one more to replace some of the lovey-dovey stuff...but that's just me...

With all this being said, I'm only nit-picky because I'm a Harry Potter fan. And I'm not afraid to admit it, even at 26 years old, lol. I still think the movie was phenomenal, and the films just keep getting better and better. At first, movie 3 was my favorite (as was my favorite book), but then the 4th movie came out and it was great. And then the 5th movie came out and it was fantastic. And now the 6th movie is out and it's amazing! Now I just don't know WHICH movie is my favorite.... (well, I don't really count the first 2 movies.....they were bad.....)

I give this movie NO REDBULLS!!!!
(I wouldn't need a single energy drink to stay up to watch this movie again and again!)

Bruno

Burno Movie Poster

Ok, as we all guessed, this movie is hilarious! Not only did I pee myself (and brings the worst out in gay-haters), but the movie actually had heart!

Favorite parts:

the swingers party
cage fighting
hunting
sex with his midget asian style boyfriend, lol :)

The only question now is....what character with SBC do next???

Def only 1 REDBULL!!!! :)

Religulous

So I finally got to watch Religulous today, and I'm a big fan of Bill Maher. He's usually right. Usually.... But I must admit, I was not that impressed with his documentary, and this saddens me. :(

First off, we must admit that most, if not, ALL documentaries are one-sided. There's always two sides to any story, no matter what, hands down, even if one side is more MORAL than POLITICAL, but at least let the other guy talk...

In his film, Bill travels to all different parts of the world to debate the concept of religion with other people. But does he really debate? I would have to say that in 90% of the movie, he TALKS OVER what his "opponents" are trying to say. He barely lets them get a word in, and if he does, he just calls them stupid. But who is he to judge???

Now, I am hardly a religious person (I believe in God, but I'm gay, so you do the math, lol), but I at least like to think of myself as OPEN MINDED and UNDERSTANDING of other people and their beliefs. But if Bill Maher was trying to find a "purpose" for religion with his documentary, I hate to admit that it didn't come across that way. All I saw was a guy who just wanted to go around and prove HIS point to people who saw differently than he did. And although I AGREE with most of his beliefs, it just made me angry that he want around trying to FORCE people to see his views as well, when I think the whole concept of religion is based on one's own PERSONAL beliefs. If all religions learned to accept the fact that other people should have the right to believe something different, this world would be a much different place...and Bill Maher doesn't help by showing his views down other people's throats. If you ask me, that's pretty religious of him... :)

I give this movie 3 REDBULLS!!!
(...because I would need 3 Redbulls to stay awake to watch it again...)

Run, Forest Run!

Another classic that makes me miss the movies of my childhood.... :)

Air Force One

Read my review about The Rock.....I feel the same way about this movie.... :)

The Rock

Watched "The Rock" the other night and forgot how good of a movie this is. I mean, first off, I love that Sean Connery is in jail for being an ex-British secret agent (I'm a huge James Bond fan, lol).

Next, the set up of the story is flawless. Cage is about to have a baby. Connery is still a loving father after so many years. Harris can't fully commit to his beliefs. It's all right there, there's never a dull moment.

And the action is also superb! There's not to much, not too little, the confrontation is always intense. There's not a sequence in the movie that is there just for action. It's all there for a reason, and that's what makes this film so great.

Hollywood doesn't make many movies like this anymore....and why not? What happened? It's only been 10 or so years since this movie came out. So why is it that movies from 10 years or more look so much more "real" than the blockbusters of today??? Where'd you go wrong, Hollywood...

Olivia and Rich's Wedding

This weekend, I attended one of the most AMAZING weddings I've ever been to!  My friend, Olivia, who I know from back home in Massachusetts, followed me to Point Park University in Pittsburgh where she met her fiance, Rich, and they finally got married last Friday, July 3rd.  This has been a year and a half in the making, but they have been dating for about 4 years now.  Here's what I loved about the wedding:

1.   My friends from Andover were there
2.  My friends from Point Park were there
3.  It rained right before the ceremony, but then stopped, and Olivia's brother, Luke, and Rich's best man, Kevin, played "Here Comes the Sun" as
an intro hymn....and the sun came out... :)
4.  Olivia smiled at me during the ceremony

5.  There was an open bar for most of the night, lol
6.  The wedding party did a medley of horrible MT numbers, but it was priceless!  ;)
7.  Their wedding cake was made of cupcakes
8.  The photographer was orgasmic!!!  www.hinkleyphotoblog.com
9.  I got to dance for most of the evening
10.  They had a photo booth and I got to play dress up
11.  The food was buffet style
12.  The colors were GORGEOUS!!!  (purples, white, and hot pink!)
13.  Rich and Olivia were happy... :)

A video montage of all the pictures I took is soon to follow.... :)

In the meantime, my BEST to Rich and Olivia, and I KNOW they love each other as much as I love them!  CONGRATS, you guys!  :)

Run, Fatboy Run

Thought I wasn't gonna like this movie, but I ended up loving it!  The plot was very sweet, passionate, and heartfelt, and the acting was natural, simple, and beautiful.  I loved Hank Azaria, even though he was the bad guy, lol.  And Simon Pegg finally made me look at him as a true actor.

I give this movie 1.5 REDBULLS
(meaning I would only need 1 and a half Redbulls to stay awake during this film...)

Well done, fatboy!  ;)
